What's the difference between Clicks and Views on...

the statistics page?

Some posts like the Phil Dawley post got a lot of views, but very few clicks while others, like ActiveRain Cred post have a much higher "click-to-view" ratio

Views are when your post is on a page w/ other posts, and someone "views" the page. Clicks are when someone specifically clicks on your post to read it.

What was to "READ?" It was just a picture!

I guess it just goes to show that people here on ActiveRain know who Matt Heaton is but are totally clueless about Phil Dawley!

Mariana, is correct, we haven't done a good job of explaining it.  That page went live the other day during our database update and we hadn't expected it to go up yet.

On ActiveRain and a lot of blogs people will read a blog post on the main blog itself as opposed to clicking down into the specific post.  Since there are 10 posts often displayed on one screen do you count when someone views that blog as viewing each of those 10 posts?  Maybe they just read the first post on the page.  So we count everytime the blog post is displayed in it's full version to a user a "view", even if there maybe 9 other posts on the page at the same time.  But we have a seperate number to log how many times that post has been clicked on, to view it individually.

Thanks Matt! Now it makes sense!

(And sorry about the title error!  I had pre-posted it to my email because I had run out of my 5 posts a day and I forgot to fix the title when I copied and pasted the article to ActiveRain!)

Definitely...  It's been in my feedreader for quite a while!

If I remember correctly, I think I even let Matt know about a RSS problem with the feed for that blog that was messing up my feedreader a little before the Inman conference this past summer! :)

Dustin, are you still using Bloglines or do you have another favorite now?

BTW, it's good to see you here on AR!

Thanks Leanne,

In terms of feed readers, I'm definitely addicted to Google Reader at this point. I've been using the "share" feature pretty extensively, so if, by chance, you're interesting in the articles from my feed reader that I find interesting, here is the link: http://www.google.com/reader/shared/12864365649340148034.
It's probably time for a blog post update!

Posted by Dustin Luther (4Realz.net) over 2 years ago

Thanks for the update, Dustin.  I've been using Bloglines based on your prior recommendation as well as some research I'd done at that time.  Now... and especially after checking out your "share" feature's URL, I'm going to have to check out Google Reader again.  I especially got a kick out of Blue Collar Agents' "Real Estate in 2021 post... is USA MLS a.k.a. R.com?  I don't quite agree with all the "predictions" but, hey, they're entitled to their opinion!
